Please review the following information to make the swim meets an enjoyable experience for everyone!
What to Bring to Each Meet
- Swimsuit
- Goggles
- Towels
- Swim cap (if wearing)
- Water and healthy snacks / lunch for the swimmers.
- Deck Shoes if desired
- Extra goggles and swimsuit are a good idea if you have them.
Arrival
When you arrive at the pool, find the Woolwich Swim Team in the lobby. We will check-in your swimmer and write their event numbers on their arms.
Warm-Ups
Your swimmer will have a desigated warm-up time (communicated prior to the meet). They should be on deck and ready to swim at the start of their warm-up time.
Marshalling
There will be a location where event numbers are posted. If a swimmer's event number (or higher) is posted, they need to make their way to the marshalling area to prepare for their event.
Results
Results will be posted on a wall at the meet and available on the Swimtopia and Time Drops apps. We will provide instructions prior to the meets on how to access the results on the apps. A pdf copy of the results will also be provided after the meet.
Ribbons (Not Applicable for Fun Meets)
For the SWORSA meets (May - July), ribbons will be distributed to the top 8 swimmers in each event (usually at practices the following week).
End of Meet
Once your swimmer finishes their last event, they may change and leave the venue. After the Kincardine Meet (June), families are encouraged to join us at the beach for our annual picnic. After the Finals (July), swimmers will be instructed to come back on the deck after the meet for our end of year awards ceremony.
Meet Absences
We understand that swimmers become ill or injured prior to meet. It is important to notify us as soon as possible when a swimmer can no longer attend as it will impact the relay teams and heats.
Meet Volunteers
The swim meets rely on volunteers to run! Volunteer job sign-up will be posted for each meet. This is a great way to help out and to watch the events.
Swim Meet Etiquette
1. Questions about Results / DQs
If you have questions about the results or disqualifications, you must speak with an adult coach or manager from our team. DO NOT approach the results area during a meet.
2. Swim Meet Behaviour
With a growing number of swimmers at our meets, there are increasing reports of rough play and vandalism. Parents / guardians are responsible for monitoring the behaviour of their swimmers during meets, including in the change rooms.
All three teams have grown in the past few years. To accommodate all the swimmers, we have to schedule more heats, which extends the length of each meet. Unfortunately, as the meets get longer, there are increasingly longer periods of time between each swimmer’s events. Some swimmers cannot cope well with sitting still for hours at a time. We suggest swimmers come well prepared for a swim meet, with creative non-destructive activities to keep them busy between their events. Please talk to your swimmer(s) about appropriate behaviour at meets.
